Unscene films 2017

Written by Wayne Murphy | Mar 25, 2020

Following the success of its inaugural festival, Village Cinemas’ Unscene short film competition is back and is once again seeking Australia’s most talented undiscovered filmmakers.

Partnering with Event Cinemas and Open Channel, Village Cinemas will be calling out for emerging filmmakers to produce a short film inspired by this year’s theme; ‘The Future of Cinema’.

The festival was born as a way to encourage Australian filmmakers to contribute to the industry. The prize pool was designed to create further opportunities for work, including a $10,000 cash first prize, a mentoring opportunity at Open Channel, and equipment from Blackmagic, one of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers of creative video technology.

General Manager of Sales & Marketing at Village Cinemas, Mohit Bhargava said, “One of the most important aspects of the festival is to be able to give our most talented filmmakers opportunities to keep creating.”

“Our mantra is to ‘make a film for your future’. We like to think of it as an investment so that one day we can see even more great Australian content make it to the big screen.”

Unscene will showcase a selection of shortlisted finalists, chosen by their peers and industry experts based on online voting at unscenefilms.com.au. The winners being announced at a red carpet Gala event in late December.

Village Cinemas are seeking short films up to 5 minutes in length that are original, creative and compelling. Any aspiring filmmaker, amateur or student can apply as long as they are over the age of 18.
